Short: French Elections

The French elections are currently in full swing. The Elections in France are highly different than in America. There are two rounds, the first round is meant to pick out two candidates to move on. Currently it appears that it will either be Marine Le Pen and Francois Fillon, or Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron. All of whom are hovering at low to high twenties in the polls. Once two of them move on, it comes down to who wins the second round, and he/she will be the President of France.

Marine Le Pen is the Candidate for the National Front, a far right authoritarian party which places itself against heavy immigration, and against the euro and european project, as well as taking a strong stance against globalism. From the get go this may sound like Trump, and I believe that many french people who are enamoured by a sense of nationalism, fail to see that while Marine Le Pen may be playing the fiddle of Nationalism like Mozart, She isn't as Anti-Establishment as she would have herself seem. Sure, she is anti the current establishment, but the fact is, Marine Le Pen is a National Socialist. A socialist can't exist without a powerful Government Establishment. The French people may be fooled by her anti-establishment front, but She will merely replace the current establishment with a far more powerful one. That's not necessarily bad if you enjoy governments taking your freedoms, but I suggest to any libertarian French people, Marine Le Pen should not be your choice.

Francois Fillon is a member of the Republicans. He is Center Right Politician who appears to be set in the establishment. Currently he appears to be the leader, While polls show that Marine Le Pen holds a steady lead in the first round, her extremist tactics will be little use against a more moderate opponent who can capture some of the right as well as the left when just the two of them, Fillon, and Le Pen, are pitted against each other. He had led in round one until mid January, however a scandal with his wife put him down a couple points. He appears to have a good chance of winning the second round if he moves on, but it's not guaranteed, Trump was a surprise, Brexit was a surprise, The Patriots shouldn't have been a surprise but ended up being quite a big one, Le Pen is by no means out of it.

Emmanuel Macron is hovering in second place currently but gaining steam, He is a strong competitor for the presidency due to his status as being an independent who claims to not be Right or Left. He takes after Le Pen in a variety of her anti-establishment, and anti europe ways, but he also is much more moderate and appears to have a much better chance of winning the presidency than either Fillon or Le Pen. He is a former member of the Socialist party but during his tenure, he implemented business friendly bills which seems not very socialist like.

These are the three Front Runners in the French Elections. The Round one Candidates will be selected on the 23rd of April, while the Decision for President will be on the 7th of may.

Trump may have enemies, but he has very strong supporters

When Obama was president, the percentage of people who thought the country was going in the Right Direction languished at a lousy 20-30%, Trump has swooped in and carried that to dizzying heights of 45+ according to Rasmussen Polling, and he has held it steady at around 47%, which is a 12 year high. The Fact is, our last couple of presidents have not been very popular, it's common to hear good news about Obama, but the fact is that his average approval rating was merely 47.9%, of course he hit highs at the end of his two terms when he went through a second honeymoon period and voters became sad to see the charismatic young president leave, but the fact is, a very small portion of the country actually thought Obama was making the country better. Obama's bouncy approval rating numbers were proof of that, his supporters saw his mistakes and flaws.
Trumps Supporters are different. Trump was carried to the finish line by a mighty armada of Trump supporters who endured the usually shipwrecking waves of scandal and saw Trump's inadequacies, but also saw his potential. Trump supporters are not like supporters of a normal establishment candidate, an establishment candidate must play by the rules, and do well. Trump has not come to play by the rules, but to break the rules and then burn them. Trump is riding on a wave of anti-establishment Patriots that are tired of the same old politicians doing the same old things without a care in the world for the average American. And the Fact is, unless Trump becomes an establishment player and is exposed, he will maintain these ultra high percentages of people that believe the country is headed in the direction.
One major difference between Trump and Obama is this. Obama supporters who approved of Obama did not necessarily like the direction the country is going, they just liked Obama because he was a charismatic, likable man, It was quite obvious that when Obama's Approval ratings were at 40+ but the percentage of people that thought the country was going in the right direction were below 30, that something wasn't clicking . But now we have a president where almost everyone who approves of him, also thinks the country is heading in the right direction, People are no longer approving of Trump because he is likeable, People approve of Trump because all that he stands for, and all that he brings is to their liking.

Obama had admirers, Trump has followers.

The Myth of Liberal Tolerance

There is a common myth that floats around that Liberals are all inclusive and fully tolerant. They are like the Jesus of modern day society, which is ironic because many of them don't believe in Jesus. The Facts are plain and simple. In almost every metric of tolerance, Liberals are found lacking compared to their conservative counterparts, except for racism where they are about tied in negative views towards certain ethnicities, All of which are tiny percentages of negativity, it turns out America is not as Racist as groups like Black lives Matter, and Antifa would have you believe.

Here is a show of the Overwhelming liberal tolerance.

According to Public Religion Research Institute, Democrats are almost three times more likely to unfriend someone because of their political views than republicans.(24-9%) While the gap between liberals and conservatives is larger, nearly 4 times, (28%-8%.) At least on social media, there is a large lack of tolerance as of now. Apparently the Democrat women are the ones skewing it, while only 14% of Democrat men have unfriended people because of political views, 30% of Democrat women have. This is compared to 8% of Republican men, and 10% of Republican women.

As well, off of social media, Pew Research Center tells us that about 60% of Hillary Voters find it hard to respect Trump voters, while 56% of Trump voters have no problem with Hillary supporters.

When it comes to Religion as well, Republicans are remarkably less discriminatory than Democrats. According to a Gallup Poll,

(percentages are the amount of a group that view a certain religious group positively)

70% of Republicans view the jewish people positively, only 51% of Democrats view them positively (+19 Republicans),

68% of Republicans view Catholics positively, compared with 51% of Democrats(+17 Republicans).

Methodists, Republicans 67%, Democrats 51% (+16 Republicans)

Baptists, Republicans 70%, Democrats 47%, (+23 Republicans)

Mormons, Republicans 34%, Democrats 26% (+8 Republicans

Muslims, Republicans 27%, Democrats 27% (tied)

Evangelical Christians, Republicans 63%, Democrats 31% (+32 Republicans)

Fundamentalist Christians, Republicans 50%. Democrats 24% (+26 Republicans)

Atheists, Republicans 9%, Democrats 20% (+11 Democrats)

Scientologists, Republicans 9%, Democrats 11% (+2 Democrats)

And in every one of those Groups where Republicans lead in positivity towards a certain Religious group, Democrats lead in Negativity towards that group. In fact the only groups in which there is more Democrat Positivity towards are Atheists and Scientologists. Democrats are vastly less favorable towards a majority of the American people than Republicans.

When it Comes to Racism, studies by FiveThirtyEight show that Republicans and Democrats are about equal on negative views towards Black people, with Democrats actually leading most categories until Obama was elected, where then most polls tipped slightly in Democrats favor, or about tied.

The Fact is that Democrats which are the main voting block for liberals, are vastly more intolerant than Republicans.
When it Comes down to it, Both Parties are about tied in Racism, but when it comes to Religion, Republicans are vastly more tolerant, and when it comes to intellectual Tolerance, once again, Republicans are vastly more tolerant.

In the spirit of Mythbusters, is The Myth of Liberals being more tolerant confirmed or busted?
